Bill C-38 - the Civil Marriage Act
The Bill to legalize same-sex marriage across Canada has passed second reading and is now before a Legislative Committee for study before a third and final vote in the House of Commons.
Assuming the government survives a vote of confidence over its budget on Thursday May 19th its quite possible that the Civil Marriage Act can be made into law before the summer recess.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Irwin Cotler wrote to the committee May 12th with his views on why this legislation must become law.
