Vote for Sam Sullivan!
If you are a voting member of the Non Partisan Association, on September 24th please vote for Sam Sullivan as your candidate for mayor of Vancouver.
Sam opposed the referendum on the Olympics. The referendum wasn’t about the Olympics. It was about developing the Woodwards building. I am all for the 2010 Olympics and I love Ilanaaq. I am also quite pleased with the current Woodwards plan. Neither of these items required a $500,000+ referendum which, had it gone against the Olympics, wouldn’t have been binding on the city anyway.
I also like Sam because he has
Continued to work at the city’s 4 pillar approach to drugs and addiction.
Improved the lives of Vancouverites who live with physical challenges.
Improved the city’s transit system.
Supported opportunities for home owners to reduce their property taxes and improve the aesthetic of their neighbourhoods.
Worked to stop a plan to increase parking meter hours.
Thought about the growing number of people who will call Vancouver home in the future and how to increase the living density within the city to accommodate everyone.
Invested his own money in his ideas and campaigns.
Worked at being a city councillor instead of a potential provincial legislative candidate.
Recognized that Vancouver needs to utilize its industrial lands for industry.
Advocated for less political expansion of city hall, responsible spending on projects like the Urban Food Program, Community Police Centres, and the city’s ethical purchasing policy.
I wish Sam had been in favour of a ward system in Vancouver and I have been confused about his abstract view on a couple of issues. I am concerned about his lack of vocal support for an urgent, emergency and essential needs hospital for the downtown peninsula.
Sam has worked hard and honestly and I think he has a sincere passion for our city.
So please vote for Sam.
. . . . and since you are also voting for a couple of council candidates please vote for Trevor Boddy. Trevor writes about architecture and urban developement for the Vancouver Sun and is seeking the NPA nomination for council candidate (thanks to Sean Holman for that bit of info). Trevor is also concerned about how our great city will continue to grow. Please review: Vancouver’s Downtown: the new ‘Burb?
Thank you.
