RCMP and Drugs in Vancouver
A few weeks ago Vancouver Police Chief Jamie Graham asked the RCMP to look into whether Sam Sullivan should be charged with a crime because he provided money to a couple of people to buy drugs and also let a man smoke crack cocaine in his van. These incidents happened in 2001 and earlier and were well documented at the time they occured and throughout the recent election where Sam Sullivan was chosen to be the new mayor of Vancouver. Mr. Graham says he asked the RCMP to investigate because Mr. Sullivan would become the chair of the Vancouver Police Board if he became mayor.
I am assuming that the RCMP have jurisdiction to charge people in Vancouver with drug offences.
If Sam Sullivan is charged with possession, facilitation or consipiracy of a drug offence then the Vancouver Police Department needs to charge everyone who is seen using drugs in Vancouver and put an end to City Hall’s policy of selective enforcement.
This incident clearly shows which side of the debate the Vancouver Police Department is on when it comes to having a publically elected police board.
