Evening with Stephane Dion: 01-25-07
I paid $10 to attend an evening with Stephane Dion at the Fraserview Hall last Thursday.
Actually I spent $10 to enjoy some wonderful chicken dishes, the best Chai tea I have tasted, wonderful table service and some interesting table companions.
Mr Dion arrived to a packed room, he estimated 1,000 people were there. Its a large hall and I would not be surprised if that is a pretty close number. He arrived to a rock star welcome. Unfortunately his speech drew only some of the energy and applause his entrance did.
Mr Dion spent about 8 of his 10 minutes talking about Stephen Harper and the Conservative party. No one clapped when he trashed the reduction in the GST. No one clapped when he trashed the Softwood Lumber settlement that the industry agreed to. There was some laughter and applause at a couple of jokes Stephane Dion made about our current government and how they are going to be on their way out, but no details on how he was going to do things differently.
Mr Dion provided more details and ideas earlier to a luncheon with a local chamber of commerce and in Victoria and the media then he did at this evening’s event.
“Deliver not only the quality of MP’s I now have, but the quantity!” he shouted, large applause. How and with what he did not say.
8 minutes hearing about a government I do not want to see with a majority of seats in the House of Commons and 2 minutes feeding me baby food about Liberal ideals.
Mr Dion, you are better than that and you will have to do better than that if you want to convince a majority of Canadians to vote for local Liberal representation.
If it wasn’t for the good people of Fraserview Hall and my table companions, my $10 would have been a huge waste.
